Farmer’s Market

April 22, 2009 at 4:04 am (Uncategorized)

Last weekend, the weather was wonderful; it was sunny and well into the 70s! On Friday, I went shopping, then got some tasty kimbob at a Korean restaurant on the way home! On Saturday, I woke up [a little] early and walked down to the Capitol Square for the farmer’s market! I guess the market goes on all year, but it’s inside somewhere during the winter. Last Saturday was the first day it’s been outside since last fall. I went with the intention of getting some fruits and vegetables, but I didn’t stop to think that crops can’t exactly grow over the winter… Needless to say, I found very little produce. I did, however, get some dog treats to send home, and a tasty donut. Yay, baked goods!

After I had walked around the square (which took forever; it was really crowded), I decided to check out this crepe cafe I had seen a couple months ago when I was on the bus. I got the Nutella, banana, and almond crepe, and it was delicious! I had to wait quite awhile, but I’d say it was worth the wait.

Today, I got my math exam back… I got a PERFECT score! I couldn’t believe it! And my TA said the average for my section was around a 75%! I think I did so well partly because my math class last semester went over much of the same material that was on this exam. Hooray!

I had my last chemistry midterm on Monday. My professor wanted to bring the curve down, because the averages of the last two exams were higher than she wanted, so the exam was long and rather difficult. I got a 78% on it, and the average was a 68%, so I am satisfied. I got the exam back today during my discussion, though, and I had made quite a few stupid errors. If I had had the time to go back over my exam before turning it in, I could have done a few percents better. But I’m sure the same could be said for most other people in the class.

Anyway, I’ll include two pictures of the crepes I had on Saturday. I can’t decide which is better. I only remembered to take a picture after I had taken a small bite (oops!).

So I had an exam in Environmental Geology today. I spent all weekend studying/getting caught up on the reading (because Geology is the class I tend to neglect the most, for one reason or another). While I was studying, I started getting a little worried; though the general ideas were easy, the nit-picky details were plentiful. Luckily, my studying paid off, and there were only a few questions about which I wasn’t really sure. So that’s good (or at least, it should be). My next exam is in Abnormal Psychology, next… Tuesday? Yeah, I think that’s right. It’s next week, anywho. All righty, back to my math homework (this week’s homework is on second order differential equations, if that means anything to anyone). But first, behold, my most recent favourite photo! *Edit: it appears as though the color in the photo in the post is slightly duller than that in the original, unless it’s just my computer being weird. Apologies.

New Idea

Since I’m so terrible at keeping this guy updated, I decided to make it more of a photoblog (and hopefully nobody will steal my pictures…). I’m not exactly sure how this will help me update more regularly, but it might. And it might also inspire me to take more pictures! Anyway, I’m not exactly doing much exciting here; class, yoga/powerflow, grocery shopping. Yadda yadda yadda. Okay, here’s my photo-of-the-blog! Since I haven’t taken many pictures recently, I’ll start from the birth of my beloved DSLR.

Sorry for the lack of posts!

February 22, 2009 at 8:40 pm (Uncategorized)

I’ve been keeping really busy lately! Let’s see….

Last weekend, my boyfriend, Sid, flew out for a few days, so that was really nice =)

Besides that, everything is pretty much the same old same old. Classes, work… So far, I’ve had a midterm in abnormal psychology and chemistry. My chemistry exam went pretty well, and my abnormal psychology exam went okay-ly. For the abnormal psych exam, though, I didn’t study nearly as much as I should have because I was busy focusing on the chemistry exam that was the day before.

This week will be killer, though; I have three exams. Geology on Monday, civil engineering graphics on Thursday, and math on Friday. Geology, hopefully, shouldn’t be too bad. We’ve mostly just been talking about plate tectonics, volcanoes, and earthquakes, which I’m quite familiar with! Civil engineering shouldn’t be difficult either. In that class, we’ve been drawing objects from different angles, which is pretty easy as long as I make sure to measure carefully. Math also shouldn’t be terribly hard either, though I’ll have to review some of the applications of what we’ve been doing. For the most part, it’s review, but the applications (population growth, vertical acceleration, etc.) always gave me some issues on the homework sets. I’ll figure it out though.

Well, I should get studying! I’m counting down the days until I get to come home for spring break (less than three weeks)!

Back in Madison

Hello! My winter break was wonderful, though it would have been nice if it… never ended, perhaps. I miss home already! Ah well.

So on Monday, a few of my friends and I decided to go to Noodles & Co. down on State Street for dinner. While we were walking there, I hit a patch of ice and took my first fall! It had to happen eventually, I guess.

Yesterday was the first day of classes. My first class was Civil Engineering Graphics at 7:45 IN THE MORNING. It seems like it won’t be too difficult, though, so that’ll be good. We got out early, so I was able to get an amazing muffin from engineering hall. Next was my math discussion. I’m so glad I switched into Math 320 instead of sticking with 376. This class seems like it will be manageable, hooray! I had about a four hour break until my next class, which was my chem discussion. I’ve come to the conclusion that I dislike chemistry. But I’ll survive. After chem was Abnormal Psychology, about which I was pretty excited. The lecture itself was rather boring, as it was mostly just an intro to the class, but I’m pretty sure it will get more interesting.

Today, I’ll usually have a chem lab at 7:45, but since it’s the first week, I got to sleep in. Then I had my math lecture. My professor has a pretty thick (French?) accent, but I could still understand him. After math was Environmental Geology. The professor seems pretty amusing, so hopefully the class will be good. Then, during my hour break before my chem lecture, Abby and I went down to State Street to pick up a kit for Civil Engineering Graphics. Then I headed back for my chem lecture, which was… like any other chem lecture. Luckily, my Environmental Geology discussion was cancelled today, since it’s the first week.

At 6:30, my friend, Heather, and I went to a Zumba class over at the Nat (the gym down a couple blocks from my dorm). Zumba is pretty much just dancing. Even though I can’t dance, it was a lot of fun. Heather and I are thinking about doing intramural badminton! Haha =)

There we have it. Sorry it’s another novel, Mr. Angelidis!

Okay now it’s really been awhile

December 7, 2008 at 5:59 pm (Uncategorized)

Hmm. So since my last post, it’s safe to say I’ve been pretty busy. I got to go home for Thanksgiving (YESS) and it was wonderful, though I didn’t get much of a chance to relax. If I didn’t get to see you over Thanksgiving break, fear not, for winter break is coming up quickly. Going home over Thanksgiving was the first time I’d taken a plane by myself, and, luckily, it went very smoothly. I’d say it’s even easier than taking a bus! Haha, maybe.

In the evening of November 21, I got to register for my classes for next semester. It took me awhile to figure out which classes I wanted, but I had finally found a perfect schedule. Unfortunately, on November 21, before I was able to register, the classes I wanted started filling up, so I had to rearrange my schedule until I had all the courses I wanted. I finally got it, but it looks as though my Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays will be rather rough. I start at 7:45 and don’t end until 5:45! At least I’ll have a two and a half hour break on each of those days. But I’ll be taking 18 credits, which is the maximum I can have! We’ll see if I can handle it!

Finals week starts a week from today, but I haven’t gotten a chance to worry about my finals yet, because I still have a math exam on Tuesday. We finally got our second math exams back, and I passed! But I definitely could have done better. There were a lot of spots where I either over-thought or under-thought. Hopefully I’ll be better prepared for Tuesday’s exam. It’ll be on partial derivatives and whatnot, which is pretty easy. I just have to smooth out some bumps in my understanding of it all.

In chemistry, we’re pretty much done with all our labs, which is excellent, because I hate chemistry labs. I just have to finish an online lab for Tuesday, but my roommate already did hers and she said it was easy. After that, I just have to worry about my final, which is a week from Wednesday.

Yesterday, TAS, our residential community, got two coach buses to take us to Chicago for only $10 each! My roommate and I went, and in Chicago, we went to the Christkindlemarkt, which is a German market, then we visited the Chicago bean, and then we shopped. It was a lot of fun, but it took us forever to find Gino’s pizzeria, where we wanted to eat, and we both thought the pizza was a little subpar. Ah well, it was fun nonetheless.

Now I have to studystudystudy for math! Later today, my professor is meeting with my class to answer questions and go over stuff, so hopefully that will be helpful. Adios!

It’s been awhile

November 13, 2008 at 11:09 pm (Uncategorized)

Or at least it seems like it has. Not too much has been going on since my last post. I went to this hip-hop music festival thing last Saturday, and it was surprisingly fun, seeing as I’m not a huge fan of hip-hop music. On Monday, I had a chemistry lab, which was pretty intense. I hate chemistry labs, and this was the lab of all labs. Haha. It took forever, plus I got some silver nitrate (I think that’s what it was called, anyways) on my fingers, so my fingers are stained black in places. I have no clue how long it will last. Ah well.

Today in my Intro to Engineering lab, I actually helped a little with some of the fabrication of our project! I used the grinder on a square steel tube. Sparks were flying everywhere; it was pretty epic. Haha, just kidding. After all of my classes were finished today, I decided to walk down to State Street to get some Starbucks. They got their winter cups, now, so it’s officially peppermint mocha season! I had a coupon for a free drink, so I got a grande peppermint mocha and a piece of chocolate chip banana bread all for under $2! And it was delicious. =)

As I was walking home, I passed a poster advertising the movie, The Wackness, which the Union will be playing for FREE this Friday and Saturday (that sentence was worded terribly, but I don’t feel like fixing it). Sid has recommended this movie to me several times, so I HAVE to see it. And on Saturday there’s a free concert I want to go to at the Union South. This weekend shall be busy! Plus, it’s parents’ weekend, so most of my friends’ parents will be coming up to go to the football game and whatnot. Too bad mine can’t come =(

In other news, I made my “wish list” of my classes for next semester. If all goes as planned, I’ll have a staggering 18 credits (the maximum I can have)! Crazyyy. My last three credits are going to a Survey of Photography class, which I don’t think even counts for my liberal electives credits that I need for engineering, so I can definitely drop it if my work load seems unbearable. Amazingly, though, I’ll still have only one class in the morning on Fridays!

Hmm…

November 5, 2008 at 8:49 pm (Uncategorized)

So yesterday was election day (hooray Obama!) and I sent in my absentee ballot and everything. Made me feel quite American, I must say. Haha.

On Monday night, Abby and I started figuring out which classes we’re going to take next semester. Both Abby and I want to go in to Environmental Engineering, which is really nice since we’ll take the same classes, in general. Lately, though, I’ve been toying with the idea of double majoring in math and engineering, but I guess we’ll see how it goes. So for next semester, I’m planning on taking Math 376, Chem 104, Civil Engineering Graphics, and Environmental Geology. With those four classes, I would have 15 credits, but then I also really want to take some elective that doesn’t have much to do with math or science. I’ve found three classes that sound interesting: Philosophy, Elementary Logics, and something about Buddhist something-or-other (I forgot the name of the class). But if I were to take one of those classes, I would have 18 credits, which is the maximum I can have. Aaaand that’s a giant step up from my minimum 12 credits that I have this semester. So maybe I’ll just see if I can find a fun, one credit class. Like FENCING. Haha. We’ll see.

Halloween was a lot of fun. I decided to be a Bayern Munchen soccer player at the last second, and my friend Kyle let me borrow his shorts, socks, and shinguards. The shorts are SO comfortable! I think I’ll have to get myself a pair! Haha. On Saturday, they had this big thing, Freakfest, down on State Street. You had to pay $10 to get in, but O.A.R. played around midnight, so I think the $10 would be worth it if you saw that concert. I decided not to pay for a ticket for State Street, though, so Bill and I just stood at the entrance and watched everyone walk by. Some people had amazing costumes! Bill and I asked some police officers what the best costume they’d seen was, but they couldn’t decide. There were police everywhere! It was crazy, but it was really fun just to people watch.

The weather this week has been unbelievably nice. Today, I think it’s over 70 degrees outside! It’s so weird since it was snowing about two weeks ago. Plus most of the leaves on the trees are gone, so it doesn’t feel quite right. I’m enjoying it, for the most part.

Hmm. I think that’s about it for now! =)

Halloween

October 31, 2008 at 2:51 pm (Uncategorized)

Todaaay! Haha, I still haven’t thought of a “good” costume. I don’t think that it helps that I’m unwilling to buy anything for it. I think I’ll go as the year 1983, wear sunglasses at night, high top Converse, a band shirt that my mom got in 1981, and carry around a Rubik’s cube. That’s the best I can think of. Haha.

Yesterday, I had my second chemistry exam. I’m pretty sure I did pretty well, but I had some trouble remembering some of the equations. Ah well. Oh! We got our math exams back yesterday! I did terribly, but so did everyone else. Our professor, Sean Paul, decided that since we did so badly, he would give us three exams instead of two, then he’ll drop our worst score. SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE/MATH! =) And we were doing stuff with matrices today, which I actually understood pretty well! Amazing!

In less happy news, I finally got sick. It was inevitable, though; everyone around me has been sick (some of them multiple times), and I haven’t made much effort to avoid sickness. Ah well, it’s not too bad. Except I’m pretty sure I have pink eye now. Booo. I shall survive, though =) and try my very hardest not to give pink eye to anyone else.

Oh yeah! I had my interview for that pet portrait place on Wednesday. I think my interview went pretty well, but Jenn (the owner of the place) still had to interview three more people, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Snow?!

October 27, 2008 at 8:22 pm (Uncategorized)

That’s right, folks! Today, it started snowing. It’s very cold outside. But I’m sure this is nothing compared to what it will be in a month or so.

Just thought I’d give a quick update on the weather!
